Themeless Process

Each cell in my drawings fits seamlessly, like a puzzle piece, into the next cell. There is also no intended theme. The drawing of each cell is improvised and is influenced by the shape of the ones next to it.

Like most artists, I begin with a blank paper or canvass...

Then I draw an empty cell. A cell shell. I improvise the shape with a colored pencil and then gaze at it until features or creatures appear...

Noses, lips, and eyes...

Much to my surprise...

Another cell cries...

Part of Mary's shape is determined by the blue cell, while most of her is free to explore...

and create her own shape...

A few more faces, some shading, and we're...

Done!

Repeat.
